5 years ago I was diagnosed Bipolar. Now I’m running 1250 miles from Rome To Home to share my story & keep men alive by talking.
Because 12 guys under the age of 45 take their own life every single day in the UK and I want to play my part in doing something about it.
1) To share my story – from my full blown manic episode in Italy in 2012 and the crippling depression that followed, to what it’s taken to get back to the positive place you find me in today. By sharing my story I hope to play my part in normalising the conversation surrounding mental health issues, to battle the stigma, to give hope to others suffering out there and to encourage others (particularly guys) to speak up when they’re struggling the most.
2) To raise £12,000 and a tonne of awareness for CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) – one of the UK’s most innovative mental health charities dedicated to preventing male suicide in the UK.
3) To take on an amazing adventure challenge – to push my boundaries, test my limits, to know that I’m giving this life everything I’ve got, all-the-while using the adventure as a platform to celebrate and thank all the incredible people who have supported me over the past 5 years. You know who you are!
I’m also dedicating the Alps stage to Snow-Camp (Youth Charity) who have been changing the lives of inner-city young people with snowsports, life-skills programmes, qualifications & vocational opportunities since 2003. Watch this space when I approach the Alps!
Besides your & generous donations and spreading word, I would love to have as many of you as possible running alongside me when I arrive back in the UK.
Once I arrive at Newhaven, East Sussex (ETA Monday 23rd October) I’ll be running to Eastbourne, to Hailsham, to Ringmer then Sevenoaks (Kent), before the final approach to Greenwich Park and the final blast along the Thames to finish at the London Eye (ETA Saturday 28th October 2017).
Whether you’re keen to join me over the South Downs or the final few miles from Greenwich to The London Eye, you can get involved on the dedicated ‘Home Leg’ Facebook event-page and set-up your very own Rome To Home fundraising page here:
A huge thank you to all of my Supporters & Partners for coming on board with the adventure and believing in my vision.
To Salomon for welcoming me as a Brand Ambassador. To GoPro for coming on board with their world-class action camera’s. To my charity partners CALM & Snow-Camp for their support behind the scenes – I hope to you both proud. To the EtchRock community for welcoming me as an EtchRock Elite and spreading the word. To Ringmer Community College for getting their pupils engaged with the adventure. And to Mieke Stones from Powered By Me who’s supporting me with all things social media & PR whilst the adventure’s live.
This adventure simply wouldn’t be possible without the love & support of so many incredible individuals who have rallied around me, supported me at my darkest times and made me laugh when I needed a lift. I’ll leave the individual thank you’s until a later date, but if you’re reading these words I want you to know how much I appreciate you, your support, your generosity, your kindness and for joining me as I set out on this crazy little adventure.
Thank you for being a Rome To Home Champion, please feel welcome to email me at email@example.com, love to you all and let’s do this!
